|The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) St. Louis, MO, and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), Silver Spring, MD, have published Checklist for Concrete Producer – Concrete Contractor Fresh Concrete Performance Expectations. The document is in keeping with an initiative to facilitate a construction industry change from prescription specifications to performance specifications (P2P).
The Checklist is intended for use in a pre-contract meeting between the producer and contractor to clearly define the responsibilities of each party for the performance of the fresh concrete, according to Bev Garnant, executive director, ASCC. It applies only to the properties of the fresh concrete that address the needs of the contractor and are not typically a part of the project specifications.
“Completing the Checklist and discussing these items in a pre-contract meeting go a long way toward assuring that there is a close partnership (or working relationship) between the concrete producer and the contractor that is essential on performance-based projects.” says Colin Lobo, senior vice president of engineering, NRMCA.
