Wheetles intercept storm-water surges,
filtering and
releasing water at a constant rate with less velocity.
Wheetles form sediment ponds with reduced
velocity to allow coarser soil
particles to settle out.
Wheetles improve infiltration and absorb water,
improving conditions
for germination and
revegetation.
Wheetles overflow is spread as sheet flow in a less
concentrated, lower
velocity runoff stream.
The effectiveness of quality straw wattles (also
known as straw logs
or bio-logs) in reducing erosion
and controlling sediment is undisputed.
Evidence is
accumulating from job-sites, trials & laboratory
testing.
Straw wattles are one of the latest
advancements in cost-effective Best
Management
Practices (BMP’s).
Wheetles are made from weed free wheat straw, entangled within tubular,
photo-degradable plastic netting. A rough exterior & porous straw
matrix absorb the hydraulic energy of flowing water, reducing its velocity
and its ability to erode. Density is optimized for water flow and filtration,
utilizing pore space to capture sediment.
Wheetles are available in 6, 9, or 12 inch diameters by 25 or more feet
long.
Wheetles are extremely flexible to readily conform to the ground surface.
The low profile, with proper staking provides exceptional strength & stability
against high flow rates and holds a large volume of sediment. Their light
weight makes handling and installation easy and removal is not necessary.
Wheetles can be used on bare soil, conventionally seeded or hydro-seeded
sites, over erosion control blankets or turf reinforcement blankets.
They can be used along contours of erodible slopes, exposed by fire,
forestry operations, mining, or construction activity. Wheetles promote
germination & revegetation.
Wheetles replace bales or silt fence in situations where performance
cannot be compromised by seams, undermining, tipping over or blowing
out. Wheetles perform better, cost less and take less labor. They can
also be used in the repair of existing erosion damage.
